DC Fontana
Turned-on music to quake your bones & pluck your heartstrings with rhythm & bruise from deep within their collective soul... DC Fontana are the UK’s leading northern soul band.
A big-demand attraction on the global soul, mod & scooter scenes scenes with a worldwide following, the DCs are a gargantuan sized outfit producing a huge sound that is both electric and eclectic.
The award-winning band is fronted by the sizzling & highly respected London based soul chanteuse Tina Stevens and features a hot four piece horn section, real macoy Hammond organ, flute, bass, drums, two guitars and percussion to create a piping hot soul stew.
Make no mistake: this is magical music tailor-made to move you…and to make your feet move.
In 2007 DC Fontana are on a permanent tour to promote their new album “Soul Soup” and have headlined a number of prestigious festivals and events throughout Europe.
Producing a vibed-up sound that defies those who would pigeon hole them, DC Fontana are NOT your run of the mill Commitments copyists and their sound, although having wide mass appeal, also retains a deep sense of credibility with a high hip factor.
DC Fontana’s art & soul is an all-embracing, celebratory thing, not a myopic regurgitated slice of good-time retro music for a narrow audience of people only content to look back over their shoulders…
They deliver a polished yet punchy sound that is both young & old, modern & retro, light & dark, fierce & gentle, and they paint an aural picture that is rich from all the spectrum of colour. It’s an expression that’s versatile, heart-felt & it’s a true testament of a band that’s in a state of constant evolution & revolution who reach out higher and higher.
Less a traditional combo but more a mini soul orchestra, the DCs move effortlessly between classic northern soul and Motown hits to mainstream Atlantic soul nuggets & R&B but also sprinkle their shows with dance floor friendly elements of sunshine-flavoured Latin soul / NuYorican jazz & 60s beat to give a much wider ranging sound that makes them stand head and shoulders above the mundane minions of predictable UK soul bands.
And the group has a line up to deliver & back up the rave reviews featuring top pro musicians who between them have played on the world’s biggest stages. The band’s fluid line up of between 10 & 12 members gives great dynamism, a state-of-the-art professional sound & a period 60s mod look that makes them one of the most colourful and vibrant bands playing in Europe today.
Well respected British DJ & promoter Tony Class described them as “the best band I’ve booked” & touted them in the magazine, Scootering International as “the best soul band in the country,” while global mod promoters the New Untouchables described the DCs as “Midlands mod sensations!”
